  • Fencing and Entrance Archway
  • Ground Penetrating Radar to determine extent of gravesites outside legal boundary (completed in 2024).
  • Markers for unmarked graves
  • Research to identify names for unmarked interments, i.e.:  limited information is available via burial permits, death records, and Civil War pension files.  These types of records indicate interment in the cemetery, but do not specify grave locations (ongoing)

Children's Book

The Timbuctoo Historical Society received funding in 2024 from Burlington County to develop a book about Timbuctoo for young elementary school children (4th grade and younger). County funding has supported Timbuctoo curriculum development since 2019, and our curriculum and materials have been used in local schools since 2020.  In addition, we presented the project to the NJEA (New Jersey Education Association) convention in 2022 and 2024, as well as the Burlington County Education Association (BCEA) in 2023. Our curriculum team includes five teachers from Westampton Schools and Rancocas Valley High School. In addition, one is a graduate student.

However, these materials are designed for middle and high school students only.  We decided that we could innovatively reach younger children with a specialized book and that Advanced Placement (AP) African American History students would write the book. This is done in consultation with teachers who write children's books as well as with elementary school students. High school art students will illustrate the book. The project is ongoing. Funding from Burlington County supports development costs, but does not include funding for printing.
